Ultraband GaN / GaAs MMIC die

Authorised Ultraband Technologies Distributor

Ultraband's mmWave MMICs cover roughly 10 to 40 GHz on III-V processes, positioned mainly for satellite ground terminals plus 5G and next-generation wireless. The released Ka-band parts are supplied as bare die for module and antenna-in-package integration, and the 24 to 31 GHz coverage spans the 5G FR2 n257, n258 and n261 bands.

The Ka-band PA family delivers high gain and PAE, including the URP5B95 at 30 dBm (1 W) and 50% PAE. On the receive side, the URL6C48 LNA offers more than 26.5 dB gain, and the URF6C55 integrates the switch and LNA on one die to cut component count.

A new generation of packaged parts is in development: Ku-band PAs (0.5 W and 2 W), a Ku-band LNA with NF below 1.2 dB, a Ku-band switch, and QFN versions of the Ka-band PA, LNA and switch. Contact us to register interest.

Understanding the Difference: Ku-Band vs Ka-Band

What is Ku-Band

Ku-band (roughly 12 to 18 GHz) is the workhorse of satellite TV, VSAT and many LEO user terminals. Typical SATCOM links receive at 10.7 to 12.75 GHz and transmit at 12.75 to 14.5 GHz. Ku-band links are more tolerant of rain fade than Ka-band, with moderately sized antennas.

What is Ka-Band

Ka-band (roughly 26.5 to 40 GHz) offers wider bandwidth for high-throughput satellite and 5G FR2 links, and its shorter wavelength allows smaller antenna elements and denser phased arrays. The trade-off is higher path loss and rain fade, which puts a premium on PA efficiency and LNA noise figure.
