Ultraband Azhdarchidae Ku-band phased array LEO satellite terminal

Authorised Ultraband Technologies Distributor

Ultraband designs its phased array systems in house, from the GaN and GaAs front-end ICs and beamforming chain to the 16 x 16 antenna-in-module (AiM) tiles and the complete terminal. All three systems operate in Ku-band, transmitting at 12.75 to 14.5 GHz and receiving at 10.7 to 12.75 GHz.

Electronically steered arrays track fast-moving LEO satellites with no moving parts, so they are slimmer, faster and lower-maintenance than a motorised parabolic dish. Ultraband showcased its 16 x 16 Ku-band phased array module at Satellite 2026 in the Taiwan Space Pavilion.

For the MMICs inside these systems, see the Ultraband mmWave MMIC range.

Understanding the Difference: Phased Array vs Parabolic Dish

What is a Phased Array Terminal

A phased array steers its beam electronically by adjusting the phase of hundreds of antenna elements. It can track LEO satellites that cross the sky in minutes, switch between satellites almost instantly, and sit flat on a roof, vehicle, vessel or aircraft with no moving parts.

What is a Parabolic Dish Terminal

A parabolic dish focuses energy with a curved reflector and is pointed mechanically. Dishes are cost-effective for fixed GEO links, but tracking LEO satellites needs a motorised mount, which adds size, maintenance and handover delay. Modular arrays such as Quetzalcoatlus bring phased array benefits to GEO ground stations too.
